Battle Creek right-hander Elvys Quezada has been named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for May 24-30 - the second straight week the Yankees have claimed that honor. Quezada fired a no-hitter last Monday at South Bend and followed Abel Gomez as back-to-back Battle Creek winners. Daric Barton of Peoria was named Hitter of the Week.

In the Yankees' 7-0 win at South Bend, the 22-year-old Quezada fanned 11 batters and walked four en route to his first win of the year. He retired the last seven batters he faced, the last two on strikeouts.

It was the second and longest no-hitter in the 10-year history of the club. Carlos Hernandez tossed a seven-inning, no-hitter in the second game of a double-header against West Michigan on May 28, 2000. The Michigan Battle Cats won 2-0.

Quezada didn¹t fare as well in his second outing of the week, as he was the starter in an 8-7 loss to Burlington. He wasn¹t involved in the decision.

Quezada -- from Washington Heights, N.Y. -- will receive $100 from Battle Creek Yankees owners for winning the MWL award.

Barton was an offensive force for the Chiefs, who won five of their seven games last week. The 18-year old catcher batted .440 (11-for-25) last week. He was second in the league in runs scored (8), hits (11), home runs (3) and RBI (8). He had a. 548 on-base-percentage and a slugging percentage of .800.
