Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL â The Kane County Cougars split a double header with the South Bend Silver Hawks on Memorial Day at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars won the first game 9 â 4 but dropped the second game 10 â 3 and finish the eight game home stand at 3 â 5 having lost five of their last six games.
Sunday's game continued as action resumed in the top of the third inning with South Bend at the plate. The Silver Hawks scored three runs on four hits to take a 3 â 0 lead.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard with a solo home run from Luke Appert in the fourth and followed with three more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4 â 3 lead. Rain finally forced the umpires to pull both teams off the field in the top of the sixth inning, and the game was restarted after a delay of 1:16. Both teams would score a run in the sixth inning and in the seventh the Cougars got some insurance with a two run double by Eddie Kim. The Cougars would add two more runs in the eighth inning and went on to win 9 â 4. J.R. Pickens got the win in relief to even his record at 2 â 2.
South Bend would score seven runs in the top of the fifth inning in game two, in route to a 10 â 3 win. The game was halted for 37 minuets for a rain delay as Manny Rodriguez took the loss despite only allowing two runs over the first four innings to drop his record to 2 â 2. It was a 10 â 1 game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brian Snyder connected for a long two run homer, his fifth of the year to set the final score at 10 â 3. Snyder has now reached base safely in 24 straight games. The Cougars will hit the road for a four game road swing with the Clinton Lumber Kings.
The Cougars will have Chris Dunwell on the mound for Tuesday night's 7:00 p.m game.
