Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Rafters fell to the La Crosse Loggers on Tuesday night, 6-3, with the Loggers picking up their sixth straight win early in the season. La Crosse took the lead in the fifth on a Grant Fennell solo home run and Wisconsin Rapids couldn't catch up, collecting just two hits after losing the lead. James Davitt (Bryant) took the loss in relief, while Zach Lewis went seven strong for the Loggers in a winning effort.
The game started with these two teams sizing each other up and matching one another run-for-run. The Loggers used three consecutive singles in the second to score a pair, but the Rafters came back with four straight hits of their own to score two and tie the game. La Crosse took the lead with a run in the third and Wisconsin Rapids matched the run with one of their own, tying the game at 3-3.
But the Loggers pulled away with the home run in the fifth, then scored a run in the seventh. La Crosse made it a three-run game with an insurance run in the ninth.
Jake Sandlin (Georgia College) kept swinging a hot bat, going 2-for-4, including his league-leading ninth double. Sam Tolleson (Central Florida) was also 2-for-4, picking up an RBI and scoring a run.
The loss drops Wisconsin Rapids to 6-7 on the year. La Crosse moves to 9-6 with the win. These two teams will be back in action at Witter Field again on Wednesday night, with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. Following the game, the Human Cannonball will soar across the field, courtesy of Heartland Farms.
