June 9, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs will go for three consecutive victories tonight at 6:35 p.m. against the Madison Mallards on the road following yesterday's postponement.
The Bullfrogs were scheduled to host the Battle Creek Bombers last night, but the game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on June 25 beginning at 5:35 p.m. at Joannes Stadium. The two games will be seven innings each, and one ticket will be valid for both games. Gates will open one hour prior to the first pitch.
Green Bay's last game was a 10-7 win against the Bombers on Sunday afternoon. Franco Guardascione was the hero for the Bullfrogs. The Green Bay catcher entered as a substitute early in the game and came up big with a pair of clutch two-RBI doubles.
The Bullfrogs jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but the Bombers came back with three runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to tie the game.
Guardascione stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh, and the Bullfrogs regained the lead 7-5 with his double to left centerfield.
The Bullfrogs plated another run in the inning, but Battle Creek battled back with two more runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to one run.
With one out and the bases loaded again for Guardascione, he doubled to score two more runs to give the Bullfrogs a comfortable advantage, and Sam Brunner pitched a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory.
Pitching for the Bullfrogs tonight will be Luke Crabb, making his second start of the season. The right-hander gave up one earned run on five hits in 4 2/3 innings of work and struck out five batters on June 1 against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
Righty Nate Hoffman will be on the mound for Madison tonight. The Sun Prairie native will also be making his second start. He picked up the win by a score of 16-1 against the Kalamazoo Growlers. Hoffman threw five innings, allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out four for the Mallards.
The Bullfrogs will square off against Madison again on Wednesday and travel to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks Thursday night.
Following the three-game road trip, Green Bay will return to Joannes Stadium on June 12 against the Woodchucks at 6:35 p.m. for Educator Appreciation Night. Teachers can receive access to the Leinie's Fan Deck for $20, which includes all you can eat and drink ballpark food, soda and beer. Another option for teachers is to sit in the reserve bleacher seats and receive a hot dog and two beverages for a $10 offer.
