Winterhawks Trade Radim Valchar To Lethbridge

The Portland Winterhawks have traded forward Radim Valchar to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

With the acquisitions of Nino Niederreiter and Jacob Berglund in the WHL Import Draft, the Winterhawks could only keep two of their three European-born players. Valchar is also 20, and the Hawks can keep only three 20-year-old players.

Valchar had 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points last season, third on the team. He had 12 power play goals, which led the team and tied him for 15th in the league.

We had a very difficult decision to make with Radim. Hes been a great player for us, and he deserves a chance to play in this league. We wish him the best as he continues his career, said Portland Winterhawks General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston.
