Winterhawks Shut out T-Birds

PORTLAND - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0 Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

The T-Birds record is now 32-16-2-3 and they are in fourth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. They are two points behind the third place Victoria Royals and two points ahead of the fifth place Spokane Chiefs.

The T-Birds face the Everett Silvertips on Tuesday at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center.

Portland (36-12-2-3) took a 1-0 lead at 5:50 of the second period on a five-on-three power-play goal by Nic Petan. Petan finished off a passing play from Oliver Bjorkstrand and Derrick Pouliot.

The Winterhawks extended the lead to 2-0 with on an unassisted shorthanded goal by Adam Rossignol at 7:44 of the third period.

Bjorkstrand scored a power-play goal at 16:29 of the third to give the Winterhawks a 3-0 lead. Petan and Pouliot had the assists.

Seattle goalie Taran Kozun made 46 saves on 49 shots and his record is now 12-20-2-1. The loss was his first since joining the T-Birds at the trade deadline from the Kamloops Blazers.

Portland goalie Brendan Burke stopped 16 shots to get the win and shutout. His record is now 29-10-2-2.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2013-14 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
