
Winterhawks Fall 6-2 to Tri-Cities Friday

The Portland Winterhawks (46-9-1-2) fell 6-2 to the Tri-City Americans (32-22-1-2) Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 8,029 fans.
The Winterhawks outshot the Americans 23-8 in the first period and opened the scoring 8:56 into the game when Oliver Bjorkstrand buried his 23rd of the season to make it 1-0. The Americans tied it at the 14:07 mark on a goal by Jesse Mychan to make it 1-1 going into the second period.
Tri-Cities took a 2-1 lead with a power play goal from Zach Yuen 1:49 into the second, then extended the lead at the 16:29 mark on a goal by Connor Rankin to make it 3-1 heading into the third period.
The Americans took a 5-1 lead on third period goals from Justin Feser and Brian Williams, and the Hawks replaced starting netminder Mac Carruth with Brendan Burke. Mitch Topping scored for Tri-Cities to make it 6-1 at the 10:05 mark on a power play. Chase De Leo got one back for the Hawks late in the third, but Tri-Cities came away with the 6-2 win.
De Leo, Bjorkstrand and Taylor Leier all finished with two points apiece.
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow when they host the Vancouver Giants in a 3 p.m. matinee at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
