Winterhawks Fall 5-2 in Spokane Saturday

The Portland Winterhawks (30-13-2-1) dropped a 5-2 decision in Spokane Saturday against the Chiefs (24-14-3-3).

The Hawks got the lone goal of the first period when Ty Rattie scored a power play marker at the 14:56 mark to give Portland a 1-0 lead going into the second.

Spokane got three straight goals in the second, two from Steven Kuhn sandwiched around one from Brenden Kichton, to take a 3-1 lead. But the Hawks got one back before the end of the third when Rattie notched his second power play goal of the game at the 17:03 mark to cut the deficit to 3-2 going into the third.

The Chiefs took a 4-2 lead 2:28 into the third on a goal by Dylan Walchuk, then added a goal by Dominik Uher at the 16:52 mark to finish with the 5-2 win.

Rattie's two goals give him a league-leading 42 on the season, and with two power play markers he also leads the league in that category with 21 goals with the man advantage. Derrick Pouliot added two assists for Portland.

Portland was solid on special teams Saturday, going 2-4 on the power play and a perfect 5-5 on the penalty kill.

The two teams meet again tomorrow in Spokane at 6 p.m., before the Hawks return home to host the Everett Silvertips Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
