Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks (8-6-1-1) continued their road trip with a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes (2-12-0-1) Friday night.
The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Sam Mckechnie scored at the 12:35 mark, but that would be their only goal of the game.
The Winterhawks came back with three goals in the second period, beginning at the 4:12 mark when Taylor Peters scored to even the game at 1-1. The team then scored twice in a span of two minutes, first on a shorthanded goal from Ty Rattie at the 7:51 mark followed by Brendan Leipsic's sixth goal of the season 1:58 later as they took a 3-1 lead into the third.
The score remained 3-1 through most of the third, until late in the game when Brad Ross, a Lethbridge native playing in front of friends and family, scored an empty net goal as the Hawks came away with the 4-1 win.
Winterhawks defenseman William Wrenn had two assists on the night, his second multi-point night in the last three games. Ross also finished with two points on a goal and an assist.
Mac Carruth was outstanding in net for Portland, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced. His Lethbridge counterpart, Liam Liston, stopped 32 of 35 shots.
The trip continues tomorrow night when the Hawks meet the Kootenay Ice at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last year's WHL Final.
