Brandon, MB. - Former Brandon Wheat Kings co-captainMatt Calvertis on his way back to the Show!
The National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled the 21-year old Brandon product from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Calvert, 21, has recorded one assist, two penalty minutes and is +1 in five games with the Blue Jackets this season and added two penalty minutes in four games with the Falcons.
He made his National Hockey League debut last season on January 7 and went on to tally 11-9-20, 12 penalty minutes and was +3 in 42 games with Columbus. He began the season in Springfield and collected 13-12-25 and 12 penalty minutes in 38 games. The Brandon, Manitoba native was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft.
During his three years in Brandon, Calvert scored 99 goals and 230 points in 198 career games.
Calvert was chosen in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
While Calvert returns to the Jackets, his former team is preparing for a busy Western Hockey League weekend at Westman Place.
The 8-4-0-1 Wheat Kings will host Moose Jaw Friday and the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night. Brandon goes into the weekend tied with Saskatoon for second place in the Eastern Division - one point behind the front running Regina Pats.
Friday's game will mark the Brandon debut of the two newest Wheat Kings - left-wingerDarian Dziurzynskiand goaltenderBrandon Anderson.
