Regina Pats News Release
The 9-4 Pats look to keep their hold on top spot in the East Division this weekend as they take on two of the teams that were pegged as preseason favourites for the Eastern Conference title. It all begins tonight with the Jay's Moving "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" as the Edmonton Oil Kings visit the pink Brandt Centre ice. Come see the pink ice, special edition pink jersey and everything else that makes "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" one of the special nights on the Pats schedule.
24 hours later, the Pats will make the trip west to play the Moose Jaw Warriors for the first regular season game between these two rivals at the newly opened Mosaic Place.
Tonight! Oil Kings @ Pats Brandt Centre 7:00pm
This is the second time this season that the Pats and Oil Kings have faced each other. The first meeting was two weeks ago in Edmonton with the Pats rolling to the 6-3 win past the Oil Kings.
The faces of the Edmonton Oil Kings:
D - Mark Pysyk
The 19 year old defenceman is a 1st round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2010 NHL Draft. He was just named to play for Team WHL at the upcoming Subway Super Series in the game that will be played in Moose Jaw.
C - Michael St. Croix
The 18 year old Winnipeg native had a fantastic 2010-11 as a 17 year old, putting up 75 points and this impressed the New York Rangers enough to take him in the 4th round of the 2011 NHL Draft this past spring.
G - Laurent Brossoit
The 18 year old 6th round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2011 NHL Draft has played all but two games for the Oil Kings this season. He has won 5 of his last 6 games with the lone loss coming at the hands of the Pats.
Saturday, October 29th Pats @ Warriors Mosaic Place 7:00pm
This will be the first time the Pats renew the best rivalry in the WHL this season. The Warriors took 6 of 8 games from the Pats a season ago.
The faces of the Moose Jaw Warriors:
LW - Quinton Howden
The 19 year old superstar forward of the Moose Jaw Warriors returned to the Warrior lineup on Wednesday night after recovering from an injury he suffered at Florida Panthers training camp. Quinton Howden returned in style with a goal and an assist in a win over the Prince Albert Raiders.
D - Dylan McIlrath
The rough and rugged 1st round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft is the leader of an unreal defensive core that includes Kendal McFaul (155th overall Atlanta, 2011), Joel Edmundson (46th overall St. Louis, 2011) and Morgan Rielly.
D - Morgan Rielly
The 17 year old defenceman is one of the top ranked players (5th) in the recent ISS top 30 for the upcoming 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Morgan is currently second on the Warriors in scoring with 12 points.
Pats Pieces:
Weal Named to Team WHL:
For the second consecutive year, Jordan Weal will play for Team WHL during the Subway Super Series. He is only one of six players that will play in both games that take place Wednesday, November 16th at the Brandt Centre and 24 hours later in Moose Jaw.
Brandon Davidson on Fire:
Captain, Brandon Davidson has found the offensive touch. The 6'3" 200 pound defenceman from Taber, Alberta has 7 points over the last seven games and he has now crept into the top five scorers among WHL defencemen.
4 Weeks in CHL Rankings:
For the fourth straight week, the Regina Pats were ranked in the BMO CHL Mastercard Top Ten rankings. For week six, the Pats were the 8th ranked team in the country. Joining the Tri-City Americans (5th) and the Kamloops Blazers (10th) in the Top Ten.
