Game No. 17 ⌂ Home Game No. 8 | 2011 Home Record 3-4 | 2011 Road Record 4-5

RHP Terry Doyle (0-1, 3.60) vs. RHP Jake Rasner (1-0, 6.30)

Easter Bunny Bash: The Dash finished up their series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks with the highest-scoring game for both teams all season. The Blue Rocks escaped BB&T Ballpark with an 11-10 victory to win the four game series, 3-1. Winston-Salem nearly erased a six-run deficit, but fell just short for its sixth loss in seven games. The game featured 21 runs, 26 hits, 15 extra-base hits, and six home runs. It accounted for new team season-highs in runs scored (10), runs allowed (11), hits allowed (16), home runs for (3), home runs against (3), and time of game for a nine-inning contest (2:57).

Baby Birds Bring Familiarity: Tonight the Dash renew relations with the Frederick Keys, the Carolina League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Keys bring a veteran team with plenty of players returning from last year's squad. In 2010, the teams split their season series 10-10. Each team went 7-3 at its home ballpark. Frederick also bring some familiar faces back to the Twin City. Two former Dash players are on the Keys: RHP Jake Rasner and IF Dale Mollenhauer were both picked up by the Orioles in the Minor League Rule V Draft this past offseason. Rasner pitched for Winston in parts of 2008, 2009, and 2010, going 10-16 in 72 games (39 starts) with a 4.28 ERA. Mollenhauer played in 161 for Winston-Salem in 2008 and 2009, hitting .260 with six home runs, 30 doubles, seven triples, 56 RBI, 89 runs, and 24 stolen bases. He spent all of last season with AA Birmingham and hit .262-1-27.

One-Run Woes: Amazingly, the Dash have played nine games already this season that have been decided by one run. Winston-Salem is 3-6 in such contests after yesterday's 11-10 loss. At this rate, the Dash would play nearly 80 one-run games over the course of the season. Four of the team's six losses during this 1-6 stretch have been by one run. Winston has played close games almost exclusively this season. Fourteen of its 16 games have been decided by three runs or fewer and the team has had a lead in 14 games this season.

Gac in the Box: Ian Gac elevated himself into first place in home runs in the Carolina League with his ninth-inning blast that landed in the vicinity of Neptune yesterday afternoon. Gac has hit home runs in back-to-back games and now has a league-best seven. Five of Gac's home runs this season have either tied the game or given Winston-Salem the lead. The Seattle-native is third in the CL in RBI (17), second in slugging percentage (.700), first in total bases (42), and tied for second in extra-base hits (10).

Bad Salami: Blue Rocks third baseman John Whittleman hit just the second-ever grand slam in BB&T Ballpark history yesterday afternoon. Whittleman hit the first pitch he saw in the second inning from Justin Collop into the home run porch in right-center field to give Wilmington a 7-1 lead. It was the first grand slam here by a Winston-Salem opponent. The first grand slam at BB&T Ballpark was stroked by former Dash 2B Drew Garcia, who blasted his in the eighth inning on May 8 against the Salem Red Sox. Like yesterday's game, that contest also finished with a goofy score, as Winston won that night 16-13.

Yount Up: Austin Yount rebounded from his role in a bad call by the umpiring crew that led to John Whittleman's grand slam by drilling his second home run of the season in the bottom of the inning. His two-run shot was his first since opening night and the sixth of his career. In his next at bat, Yount recorded his third career triple en route to scoring his second run of the game

Ciolli No Evil: Yesterday's ballgame was a dramatic change for the better for Dash leftfielder Nick Ciolli. The Indiana native came into yesterday's game with just four hits on the season and a .148 batting average. Ciolli proceeded to go 3 for 3 at the plate with a single, double, and solo home run, finishing just a triple shy of the cycle. In his only other plate appearance, Ciolli walked, reaching base on all four trips to the plate on Sunday. His batting average shot up 85 points to .233 with the big afternoon.

Attention J-Mart Shoppers: Jose Martinez went 1 for 5 on Sunday with an RBI single and scored his league-leading 17th run. He now sits second in the CL in batting average (.391), two percentage points behind Wilmington's Rey Navarro. Martinez leads the league in hits (25), is tied for second in doubles (7), is second in on0base percentage (.451), and is fourth in most plate appearances per strikeout (10.29).

Today's Opposing Starter: Former Dash RHP Jake Rasner (1-1, 6.30) makes his return to BB&T Ballpark tonight to face his old team. He was acquired by the Orioles this past off-season in the Minor League Rule V Draft and has made two starts for the Keys this season, allowing seven runs in five innings in his most recent outing. Rasner pitched for Winston-Salem from 2008-10, going 10-16 in 72 games (39 starts) with a 4.28 ERA. He had perhaps in finest performance in a Winston-Salem uniform in game three of last year's Southern Division Championship Series at Kinston, throwing four innings of shutout ball to pick up the win in the Dash's 12-inning, series-clinching victory over the K-Tribe. Rasner came to the White Sox from the Rangers organization in a trade that also sent John Danks and Nick Masset to Chicago in exchange for Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano. Rasner spent much of 2010 pitching for AA Birmingham, compiling a 1-6 record and a 5.02 ERA for the Barons. The cousin of former major league pitcher Darrell Rasner, Jake was originally drafted by Texas in the seventh round of the 2005 draft and spent his first two seasons with the Rangers, going 7-21 with a 6.14 ERA in 41 games for the low-A Clinton LumberKings and AZL Rangers. He eschewed a commitment to the University of Nevada to play professionally.
