Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 25, 2011) - Frederick surged to an early lead, shrugged off a huge Dash rally, and cruised to a 14-7 win on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. Winston scored seven runs in the fifth inning to nearly erase an 8-0 deficit, but went on to lose the first game of the four-game series.

The Keys (7-9) did some early damage against Winston-Salem (7-10). Kyle Hudson reached on a bunt single on the first pitch of the game then advanced to third on a double by Trent Mummey. L.J. Hoes grounded out to drive in the first run and then Tyler Townsend reached on an error by Dash starter Terry Doyle to plate the second run. After a walk, Jacob Julius and former Dash infielder Dale Mollenhauer each singled in another run to make the score 4-0.

Frederick added a run in the second when Hudson doubled and then scored on a single by Mummey.

In the fifth, Hoes reached on an error and moved to third on Townsend's double. Doyle retired one batter, and then gave up a three-run home run to Julius to send Frederick ahead 8-0.

Keys starting pitcher Jake Rasner, a former Dash hurler, set down the first eight hitters he faced and gave up only two hits through four innings. But in the fifth, the Dash exploded for their biggest inning of the season.

Jason Bour started the inning with a single and Austin Yount followed with his third home run of the season. After Nick Ciolli made the first out, Jake Oester singled and Daniel Wagner walked. Jose Martinez stepped in and drove home the third Dash run with a single up the middle. Jared Mitchell struck out before Ian Gac singled in another run to cut the deficit to 8-4.

Will Startup then relieved Rasner and was greeted by an Andy Wilkins three-run home run on his first pitch. The Dash racked up seven runs in the inning to make it an 8-7 ballgame. It was the highest run total in a frame so far this season Winston-Salem.

From there, Winston's offense was silenced by Startup and the Keys added to their lead. In the seventh, Hoes reached on an error by Martinez and came around to score after Tyler Kolodny grounded into a fielder's choice.

One inning later, the Keys erupted for four more runs after the bottom of the order loaded the bases for Mummey, who drove in three runs with a triple. Townsend brought home Mummey later in the inning to put the Keys up 13-7.

Frederick scored one more in the ninth inning when Mummey singled in Mollenhauer. In his first game at the Advanced-A level, Mummey had four hits and five RBI.

Startup (2-0) earned the win after throwing 3.1 innings in relief of the starter Rasner. Doyle (0-2) got the loss after allowing eight runs, six earned, in six innings.

The Dash and the Keys continue their series tomorrow night at 7 p.m. RHP Andre Rienzo (0-0, 2.57) starts for Winston-Salem opposite LHP Nathan Moreau (2-0, 3.60)
