Hillcats Drop Another at Home
April 25, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Hillcats lost stater Arodys Vizcaino early in the game, and then lost their sixth straight at home, falling to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 8-1 Monday night.
After retiring the first two batter in the top of the second inning, Vizcaino gave up a single, and then a two-run home run by Joey Lewis to give the Blue Rocks the initial lead. Then in the third, the Hillcats allowed a runner to score from second on a sacrifice fly to center for the second time in a week.
The Hillcats got one back in the bottom half of the third. Andrelton Simmons and L.V. Ware led off the inning with singles, putting runners on the corners. A hit-and-run was called as Phil Gosselin lined the pitch to center. While Ware would be doubled off of first on the play, Simmons tagged and came in to score to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the top of the fourth, Vizcaino (1-2) had to be pulled from the game due to an injury. Reliever Ryan Weber, making his first appearance for the Hillcats, had to come into the game without any warmup time in the bullpen. He gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the fourth, then settled down and didn't give up a run for the next three innings.
The Blue Rocks tacked on one in the eighth and three more in the ninth against reliever Andrew Russell. While the Hillcats put a runner on base in seven of the nine innings, they could only muster the one run, and fell, 8-1.
Blue Rocks starter Tim Melville recorded the win to improve to 2-2 on the year. The Hillcats fell to 4-12, while the Blue Rocks won their eighth road game to go to 12-5.
Righty Zeke Spruill (1-1) takes the mound for the Hillcats tomorrow, while the Blue Rocks will send out lefty Justin Marks (1-1). First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. and gates open at 5.
If you can't make it to the game in person, the Hillcats On-Deck Show presented by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg will go on the air at 5:40. Tune in to 105.5 KD Country or go to lynchburg-hillcats.com to listen live to all the action.
