Game #76 (Road Game #37)

DASH, P-NATS WASHED OUT TUESDAY

A heavy thunderstorm blew through Woodbridge, Va., preventing the Dash's middle match with Potomac from taking place. Thus, these two teams will complete a rain-shortened two-game series on Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday's tilt will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, July 23, which is the third day of the Dash's second and final trip to Pfitzner Stadium during the season's second half. This was the Dash's third postponement and first since a series opener at Myrtle Beach on May 17.

LOOKING BACK

Winston dropped this series opener 5-1 back on Monday. Four Potomac pitchers, including big league rehabber Jonathan Papelbon, limited the Dash to one run. In just his second High-A start, righty Kelvis Valerio surrendered five runs (four earned) over six innings, which was his longest start since August 3, 2014. However, he failed to continue a remarkable run for Winston-Salem's rotation. From June 14 through Sunday, Winston-Salem's rotation gave up just six earned runs in 66.1 frames, which calculated to an ERA of 0.81. Even with Valerio's outing mixed in, the Dash's rotation ERA is 1.24 over the last 11 contests.

STARTING IT BACK UP?

Winston-Salem will attempt to restart this surge behind righty Jordan Stephens, who has shined as of late. Stephens has not given up a run in his last 15.1 innings dating back to a Braxton Davidson home run in the fourth inning of the Dash's loss at Carolina on June 10. Since then, Stephens has scattered 10 hits and struck out 16 while lowering his ERA to 3.86.

NASHING TO THE TOP

The lone bright spot offensively came when Telvin Nash clubbed a solo shot down the right field line. This opposite field blast marked his second home run (and third hit) since joining the Dash Thursday. Not only does Nash have 104 Minor League home runs, but he led the Atlantic League with 15 when signed by the White Sox.

BURDI BLANKS THE P-NATS

One of the White Sox first-round picks this month, right-handed flamethrower Zack Burdi, spun a scoreless eighth inning in Monday's loss at Potomac. Burdi whiffed Jose Marmolejos on four pitches before inducing a groundout off the bat of Raudy Read. The former University of Louisville star did give up a double to Alec Keller, but he was caught trying to steal third, thus ending the frame. In his first two High-A efforts, Burdi has permitted one run on four hits.

FRIENDLY FIRE

Winston-Salem outfielders Hunter Jones and Mason Robbins have been ping-ponging back and forth for the squad's top batting average, though Jones went 0-for-4 and Robbins 1-for-4 with a bunt single on Monday. Robbins pulled ahead with that single, giving him a .290 batting average that is ninth-best in the Carolina League. Jones stands at .288, 10th-best on the circuit. Jones is also in the top five in the league in hits (84; 1st), at-bats (292; 1st), games (74; T-2nd), triples (7; T-2nd), runs (52; 4th) and steals (27; T-4th). Defensively, Robbins paces the CL in outfield assists (11), with Jones second (9).

ONE MORE RODEO

Following Wednesday's matinee, the Dash head to Wilmington for a four-game series. This marks the final regular season set between the two teams. By Sunday, the Dash will have played 15 of their last 26 games against the Blue Crew from June 4 until July 3. Winston-Salem enjoys a 7-4 advantage in the season series, though Wilmington earned a two-out-of-three take in Delaware from June 13-15.

DASH DOTS

Infielder Toby Thomas delivered a pair of extra-base hits in Monday's loss, a double in the second and a triple in the fifth...Thomas is tied for fourth in the CL with 19 doubles...2015 Dash right-hander Carson Fulmer, now with Double-A Birmingham, was named to the U.S. Team for next month's All-Star Futures Game.
