Game #77 (Away Game #38)

DASH DROP EXTRA-INNING BATTLE

Despite a quality start from Tanner Banks, the Dash fell 3-2 to Frederick in 10 innings on Tuesday at Nymeo Field. With two outs and a runner on second in the deciding frame, Preston Palmiero stroked a single into left-center to bring around Alejandro Juvier as the game-winning run. Banks finished the night allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out two without issuing a walk to register his eighth quality start of the season. It is his third straight of at least seven innings pitched. The Dash had a chance to score in the top of the 10th inning against Tyler Erwin, but could not bring home Luis Robert, who started the inning on second base per MiLB's new extra-inning rules.

A MARYLAND GUY AT HEART

Growing up in Lutherville, Md., Dash first baseman Gavin Sheets is playing just about an hour away from his hometown during Winston's series at Frederick. Sheets, who was a second-round pick by the White Sox last year, played four years at Gilman School, which is located in the Roland Park neighborhood of Baltimore. He is the currently the all-time leader in hits, doubles and RBIs at Gilman. Entering Wednesday, Sheets is riding a 10-game hitting streak, during which he is 14-for-41 with three RBIs. On Tuesday, the 22-year-old went 3-for-5 with a double.

ANOTHER TALENTED LUIS GONZALEZ

Luis Gonzalez, the White Sox third-round selection in 2017, went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the Dash's loss on Tuesday...During the Dash's 19-run performance on Monday, Gonzalez went 3-for-6 with four runs. Rated the 18th-best prospect in the White Sox system by MLB Pipeline, Gonzalez is 8-for-17 at the High-A level with six runs scored in his first four games. Before joining the White Sox, Gonzalez played three seasons at the University of New Mexico, where he finished with 124 walks against 71 strikeouts in 750 plate appearances. He was a two-way player for all three seasons but thrived more as an outfielder. As a junior, he slashed a .361/.500/.589 line with 22 doubles, eight homers and 42 RBIs.

A NEW STAR IN WINSTON-SALEM

Rated the 24th-best overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, Robert is 5-for-21 with two runs scored and an RBI to start at the High-A level. Robert, who was promoted to Winston on Thursday, began the year on the Dash's disabled list with a sprained ligament in his left thumb before being transferred to Low-A Kannapolis, where he posted a line of .289/.360/.400 with four RBIs in 13 games. Chicago signed Robert in May of 2017 for $26 million. Robert is wearing #21 due to a suggestion from Dash manager Omar Vizquel, who said Robert reminded him of baseball legend Roberto Clemente.

SECOND DEBUT IN THREE DAYS

Two days after Blake Battenfield made his first appearance at the High-A level, left-hander John Parke will make his first start for the Dash. A 21st-round pick out of the University of South Carolina, Parke was 7-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 14 starts for Low-A Kannapolis. A native of Greenville, S.C., Parke was one of three pitchers in the South Atlantic League to throw two complete games. In 29 appearances with the Gamecocks, Parke went 4-1 with a 5.68 ERA.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

After 14 days of either playing at home or on break, the Dash are on the road for a nine-game swing, which is their longest stretch away from BB&T Ballpark this season. Wednesday is the middle match of the Dash's five-game series against the Frederick Keys at Nymeo Field. The Keys finished in second in the Northern Division in the first half with a 35-34 record, and the ballclub is off to a 2-4 start in the second half.

DASH DOTS

With Jimmy Lambert's promotion to Double-A Birmingham, there are no longer any remaining members of the Dash's Opening Day rotation...Lambert is currently ranked second in the Carolina League with 80 strikeouts, just two behind his former Dash teammate Dylan Cease.
