Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys (38-38, 3-4) held on to defeat the Winston-Salem Dash (45-32, 4-3) 3-2 on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field. A Wilson Garcia three-run home run in the first inning proved to be the difference for the orange and black.
T.J. Nichting and Preston Palmeiro each singled to start out the bottom half of the first. That set the stage for Garcia, who launched his three-run home run to left field to give the Keys an early 3-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth. After Matt Trowbridge retired the first two batters, he walked Luis Robert and exited the game. Winston-Salem then recorded three straight hits to cut into the Keys lead. Micker Adolfo singled, and Robert scored on a Gavin Sheets base hit to center. Adolfo was then plated on a Mitch Roman single to make it 3-2. With the tying run at second, Tyler Erwin retired Yeyson Yrizarri on a long fly ball to end the threat.
Producing his ninth quality start of the year, Cristian Alvarado (7-5) earned the win. The right-hander fired six scoreless frames and struck out eight. In his Carolina League debut, John Parke (0-1) took the loss. He allowed the three-run home run in the first, but those were the only runs he surrendered over six innings. Erwin earned his seventh save by pitching the final 1.1 innings.
The Keys and Dash continue their series on Thursday night. Right-hander Mike Baumann (4-0, 2.43) makes the start for the Keys. He will be opposed by Dash right-hander Luis Martinez (4-4, 3.76). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. In 2017, the Keys received the Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for Carolina League for the second straight season, after leading the circuit in highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity. The club will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2018. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at GArnold@FrederickKeys.com.
