HOME RUN BARRAGE DOWNS DASH

Behind two home runs apiece from Bobby Dalbec and Trenton Kemp, Winston-Salem fell to the Salem Red Sox 8-4 on Tuesday night at Haley Toyota Field. After the Red Sox took an early lead in the first on an RBI single from Brett Netzer, Dalbec crushed his first bomb of the night in the third, a three-run shot over wall in left-center against Dash starter Blake Battenfield to make it a 4-0 contest. After Winston-Salem plated three in the fourth, Kemp crushed a solo blast to left-center in the bottom of the frame. Dalbec ended up hitting his second shot of the night in the fifth, a two-run blast to make it a 7-4 contest. Meanwhile, Kemp capped off the evening with a solo homer in the sixth, his second blast of the game.

GAVIN IS ON A TEAR

Dash first baseman Gavin Sheets has been in a grove in the second half of the season. Through 19 games after the All-Star Break, Sheets, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI single on Tuesday, is batting .397 (31-for-78) with eight doubles, two homers and 15 RBIs. A former second-round pick by the White Sox out of Wake Forest University, Sheets' 31 hits since June 21 are tied for second-most in all of Minor League Baseball, trailing only Coco Montes of the Grand Junction Rockies in the rookie-level Pioneer League.

ANOTHER TYPE OF B. RUTH

Along with his friend Gavin, Dash outfielder Blake Rutherford has been swinging it well in the second half. During this span, the 21-year-old is hitting .361 (22-for-61) with five doubles, two homers, 14 RBIs and a .941 OPS. The former first-round pick has also posted four consecutive multi-hit games, going 8-for-16 in that span. Rutherford leads all Dash qualifiers with a .304 average.

NEW HALF, SAME RESULTS

At 13-6, Winston-Salem is off to its best second-half start in the Dash era (2009-present). During this stretch, Winston has outscored its opponents 120-82. In the first half, the Dash clinched a first-half title for the first time since 2012.

AMONG THE BEST OF THE BEST

Winston-Salem is tied for the fifth-best winning percentage in the Minors with a .607 mark. Here's a look at the top teams in Minor League Baseball:

1. Bowling Green Hot Rods (Midwest League - A): 60-28 (.682)

2. Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League - AA): 57-30 (.655)

3. Memphis Redbirds (Pacific Coast League - AAA): 56-34 (.622)

4. Stockton Ports (California League - A+): 55-35 (.611)

T-5. Lansing Lugnuts (Midwest League - A) 54-35 (.607)

T-5. Winston-Salem Dash (Carolina League - A+): 54-35 (.607)

HUMMING RIGHT ALONG OFFENSIVELY

Thanks to their strong second-half start, Dash are atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.272), runs (456), hits (812), RBIs (430) and slugging percentage (.424).

BACK IN A STARTING ROLE

Right-hander Lincoln Henzman toes the rubber as a starter with Winston-Salem for the first time on Wednesday. Henzman, who is rated by MLB Pipeline, as the 25th-best prospect in the White Sox system, went 6-3 with a 2.23 ERA in 13 starts with Low-A Kannapolis in the first half. The 23-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the White Sox last year out of the University of Louisville. During his final year with the Cardinals, Henzman posted a 1.67 ERA and 16 saves in 37.2 innings pitched. Ironically, he replaced Zack Burdi in the closer's role, who was drafted by the White Sox in the first round in 2016.

DASH DOTS

In conjunction with Henzman taking over a spot in the starting rotation, Tanner Banks was promoted to Double-A Birmingham on Wednesday.
