Potomac Nationals News Release
Woodbridge, VA - The Potomac Nationals are excited to host Ode to the Potato Night at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium on Saturday, July 14th with the Michael A. Tater (Taylor) Statue giveaway, presented by Northwest Federal Credit Union. It will be the second game of a four-game series against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore).
Ode to the Potato Night will feature the next installment of the 2018 Bobblehead Lineup, a Michael A. Tater (Taylor) Statue, presented by Northwest Federal Credit Union. The first 1,250 fans in attendance can pick up the statue, which depicts Washington Nationals outfielder Michael A. Taylor as a potato, a play on his nickname Michael A. Tater. Taylor is known for his mammoth home runs, also known as "taters."
Prior to the game, there will be a ceremonial "First Potato" tossed to the plate.
In honor of Ode to the Potato Night, the Potomac Nationals and Frederick Keys will sign a Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, which will be raffled off during the game. Fans can also stop by fan assistance and try to win a prize by guessing how many potatoes are in a jar.
As an in-game contest on Saturday night, fans will participate in a mashed potato eating contest!
Throughout the game, The P-Nats will hold a potato sack race and a game of hot potato as in-game promotions as well. In addition, fans should be on the lookout for potato-themed concession stand deals!
Saturday, July 14th is another Scout Night at Northwest Federal Field. After the game, area scouts can camp out in the outfield and watch a post-game movie! Before the game, scouts can take part in an on-field parade and receive a commemorative scout patch.
The P-Nats will also celebrate Ed Randall's Fan for the Cure on Saturday. Throughout the game, fans have an opportunity to learn about the importance of early prostate cancer screenings and how lives can be saved. Ed Randall, a prostate cancer survivor, has partnered with Minor League Baseball, traveling to ballparks across the country to spread the message of early prostate cancer screenings.
In honor of the event, the Potomac Nationals will auction off a team-signed bat and a Steve Garvey baseball that will benefit Fans 4 The Cure.
On their way into the stadium, fans can enjoy a pre-game band performance by Annie Stokes, who will play in the Café Area.
After the conclusion of Saturday night's game, fans can watch the best fireworks show in the area, presented by WTOP.
Following the fireworks, kids can participate in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Glory Days Grill.
First pitch between the P-Nats and the Frederick Keys is at 6:35pm. Gates to the ballpark will open at 5:00pm.
