July 5, 2016 - American Association (AA)
Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN- The Gary SouthShore RailCats were held scoreless for the first time in 2016 in a 3-0 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Goldeyes (23-22) limited the RailCats (24-20) to four hits to clinch the series in Gary.

Ethan Carnes was magnificent for the team from up north. The left-hander went six innings and allowed just three hits while striking out four. The Goldeyes' bullpen was solid for the second night in a row. Kyle Anderson and Robert Tasin combined to throw three scoreless innings and close out the game.

RailCats' starter Richard Castillo recorded his fifth straight quality start but drew the loss. The Venezuelan lasted 6.1 innings and gave up three earned runs. Moises Melendez came on in relief and went 2.2 innings giving up two hits.

The damage came in the 7th inning as Castillo was reeling. The Goldeyes had four base hits and drew a walk to get Castillo out of the game. Two of the hits came off of Melendez.

The RailCats never moved a runner past second base to threaten Winnipeg. Two of the Cats' hits were infield singles. The four hits tied a season low, making it four times Gary SouthShore has only managed four hits. This was the first time a team shutout the RailCats this season.

The Winnipeg win clinched the series for the Goldeyes, ending the Cats' six-series win streak. They try to avoid the sweep in the final game of the series tomorrow night. First pitch is at 7:10 and coverage begins at 6:45 on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
