Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kans. - Alex Boshers tossed the first complete game of his professional career Tuesday, leading the Wichita Wingnuts to a 6-2 victory over the Laredo Lemurs at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The win is the fifth straight for Wichita, and clinches their ninth consecutive series victory.

The Wingnuts (27-16) got their starter the lead in the home half of the first. With two down, Matt Chavez singled through a shifted infield to give Wichita the night's first tally.

Laredo (26-19) threatened in the second, but Richard Prigatano threw out Leandro Castro at the plate, to keep the Lemurs off the board.

Wichita then took advantage of some shaky defense that saw the visitors make three errors in the bottom of the second, helping to lead to two more runs to make it 3-0.

Prigatano then made it a four-run game in the third, as he led off with a solo shot off Ryan Beckman (3-5), his fourth long ball of the campaign.

After keeping Laredo off the board through the first four frames, the Lemurs got a run off Boshers (4-3) in the fifth, when he gave up three straight singles and a ground out to make it 4-1. The righty walked Drew Martinez to reload the bases, before inducing an inning-ending line drive double play.

The double play began a string of 10 in a row retired by Boshers, which ended in the top of the ninth on a homer by Zane Chavez. He recovered to retire the next three Lemurs however, finishing off Wichita's second complete game of the season.

The Wingnuts got two more runs of support for Boshers in the sixth. Brent Clevlen took Harold Guerrero deep for a two-run shot, giving him a team-high 12 long balls for the season.

The Wingnuts go for a sweep of their three-game set with the Lemurs Wednesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Veteran righty Jon Link (6-2, 3.22) will toe the rubber for Wichita, while Laredo will counter with southpaw Josue Montanez (1-4, 8.36) First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
