Winnipeg Rallies, Wins on Harrison Single in 10th

WINNIPEG, MB. - After scoring the tying run in the bottom of the ninth, Vince Harrison connected for a game-winning single in the 10th inning as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (37-34) rallied from an early four-run deficit to take game one of a three-game series from the Kansas City T-Bones (41-28), 5-4.

Kansas City took a 2-0 lead against Jason Mackintosh in the third on a two-out, two-run double by Jim Fasano. Ryan Fox began the next inning with a solo home run, and Jacob Blackwood singled home Keanon Simon later in the frame to give the T-Bones a 4-0 advantage after four.

Mackintosh lasted six innings for Winnipeg, allowing four runs on nine hits in the no-decision.

Kevin Light, making his second career start, retired the first 12 batters he faced before surrendering a single to Juan Diaz to begin the fifth inning. Diaz later scored the Goldeyes first run on an RBI groundout by Harrison. After a walk to the next batter loaded the bases, Brett Wallace was hit by a pitch and former T-Bone Aharon Eggleston singled to plate the second and third runs of the inning respectively. Erik Hamren entered for Kansas City and induced a double-play groundout to keep the score at 4-3.

Light was charged with three runs on three hits over four and one-thirds innings. Hamren posted three and two-thirds scoreless frames in relief before giving way to Francis Beltran in the ninth.

Harrison walked to begin the ninth and was sacrificed to second by the next batter, Dee Brown. On the play, Brown reached safely and Harrison advanced to third on an errant throw to second by Beltran. Wallace followed with an RBI fielder's choice that erased Brown at second and tied the game at four.

After Corey Bass (1-0) struck out three of the four batters he faced in the top of the tenth, Casey Hodges (1-1) entered to pitch the bottom half for Kansas City. Kevin West began the frame with a single and advanced to third on a double from Luis Alen two batters later. After an intentional walk to Justin Justice, Harrison brought West home to end the contest.

The two teams face off again tomorrow night as Kansas City sends Cody McAllister (8-4, 4.09) to the hill to face the Goldeyes and Chris Salamida (9-4, 4.98). First pitch is set for 6:00. Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
