FARGO, N.D. - The Rockford bullpen combined for four innings of hitless pitching on Friday as the RiverHawks rallied to beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 9-6, at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks rallied from a 5-0, first-inning deficit to take the lead, but Fargo errors led to four unearned Rockford runs in the final three innings.
Meanwhile, Rockford relievers Mike McTamney, Jimmy Johnson and Scott Roehl faced the minimum of 12 batters over the last four innings. McTamney (2-1) struck out three in two perfect innings for his second win in his last three appearances. Johnson was the only reliever to allow a RedHawk to reach base, and that runner was wiped out on a double play. Roehl struck out the final two hitters of a perfect ninth inning for his 13th save. He's two saves from Josh Latimer's six-year-old club record.
Sixth-place Rockford kept pace with fourth-place Winnipeg for the last Northern League playoff spot. The Goldeyes beat Kansas City, 5-4, in 10 innings. KC and Fargo remain in a virtual tie for first place.
The first six Rockford batters of the game reached base against Fargo rookie Tyler Seaman. Pat O'Sullivan singled in two. Travis Scott and Evan McArthur each singled in a run and a fifth run scored on a double play.
Rockford starter Kyle Ruwe gave up a run in the second inning, one in the third and four in the fifth. Jay Cox singled in two to put the RedHawks in front, 6-5.
Fargo committed four errors, including one in each of the last three innings. In the seventh, Scott and McArthur singled and Scott scored the tying run on a throwing error by third baseman Eric Campbell. In the eighth, reliever Casey Hoorelbeke (8-5) walked leadoff hitter Jono Brooks, then threw wildly on a pickoff attempt to move the runner to second base. Brooks went to third on a groundout and scored on Rich Austin's single to left field.
Scott, who was 3-for-5, singled in the ninth and, thanks to a two-out error, scored the first of Rockford's two unearned runs in the final inning.
