Joliet JackHammers News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS - Jimmy Mojica lined a bases loaded single into right field in the bottom of the ninth to send the Kansas City T-Bones (41-27) to a 3-2 walk off victory Thursday night over the Joliet JackHammers (36-32) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The JackHammers still captured the series victory and wrapped up their regular season schedule in Kansas City, finishing up at 4-5.
The JackHammers took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth with Griffin Bailey (2-3) coming out of the bullpen. Ray Sadler led off with a single and moved to third on a Jim Fasano base hit. Brian Joynt tied the game with a fielder's choice to short, plating Sadler. Ryan Fox followed with a double to left to put runners at second and third. William Jackel relieved Bailey and intentionally walked Eladio Rodriguez to load the bases with one out. Mojica then lined a 2-0 pitch into right for the 3-2 walk off win.
The loss spoiled a fantastic outing by Devin Anderson, who went a season high seven innings for the second time this season. The southpaw allowed only one run on three hits and retired the final 13 batters he faced.
Joliet backed Anderson with solo tallies in the fourth and fifth frames. Chris Colton tied the game at one with a two out single in the fourth, scoring Jon Nelson who reached on a double. Jonathan Wyatt put the 'Hammers out in front the next inning, singling home Joe Billick from third base. Billick doubled with one out and moved to third on a Josh Flores single off Reid Santos.
The Kansas City starter went eight innings in the no decision, allowing two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
The T-Bones staked Santos with an early run, but wouldn't score again until the ninth. Dwayne White. Sadler and Fasano collected back-to-back-back singles in the first against Anderson for the 1-0 lead. The Fasano RBI single was the final hit surrendered by the Joliet starter.
Drew Shetrone picked up the win against his former team, getting the final two outs in the top of the ninth.
Nelson, Colton and Billick each collected two hits with Colton and Wyatt knocking in the only runs.
The JackHammers return home to Silver Cross Field for a three game series beginning tomorrow night against the Schaumburg Flyers. Bear Bay (5-4) will take the ball for Joliet opposite Alain Quijano (2-7). First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
