Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Winnipeg - Staples Business Depot has partnered with Winnipeg Harvest and the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the annual Staples Business Depot 'Tools for School' campaign from July 30- September 9, 2012. Winnipeg Harvest will continue to distribute basic school supplies to client families before students return to school.

Last year was a great year where we were able to help many families get the school supplies they needed, but the work never stops", says Mary Ray, General Manager, Staples Business Depot, Winnipeg Unicity. "2011 means a new year with new challenges, more opportunities to make a difference and more drive to go even further! The future is about giving children a chance to move forward and the more we can do to supply them with the right tools for this, the further they can make that future go."

The Winnipeg Goldeyes play a role on and off the field with Winnipeg Harvest. "The Goldeyes are pleased to be a partner in this very important initiative. We are committed to giving back and making a positive impact on the lives of others in our community. Congratulations to Staples and Winnipeg Harvest for their vision and dedication to the youth in our community", says Andrew Collier, General Manager of the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Retired teachers will be volunteering their time again "this year" to "help" run the annual school supply drive. "They (retired teachers) know the importance of school supplies in a child's education.

Without the proper tools, these children can find it difficult to complete the school work that will shape their own success and the educational health of the community" says Josie Landry, volunteer school supply drive coordinator. "The supplies that are donated are an integral part to a child's learning.

With the generosity of donators, we can help students succeed."

"With requests for school supplies continuing to increase, this program is a must for thousands of Winnipeg area students as the school season approaches", says Kate Brenner, Director of Development for Winnipeg Harvest. "Many families find the expense of school supplies puts a strain on their household budget and can actually decrease the dollars they have available for healthy and nutritious food. This program guarantees that all children have access to the tools they need to further their educational learning.

Donate school supplies at any Staples Business Depot location, at all Winnipeg Goldeyes home games in August and at Winnipeg Harvest. For every donation at Staples locations there is a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree!
