Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Just one night after posting a season-best 22 hits, the Quakes mustered just five base-knocks, dropping an 8-5 decision to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Wednesday evening at The Diamond.
Storm catcher Brandon Valenzuela had a big night, with four hits and four RBIs, including the go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the fifth against Daniel Cruz (0-1), which put the Storm ahead for good.
The Quakes trailed 3-0 in the top of the fifth, but came roaring back to take a 4-3 lead.
The inning was mistake-filled for the Storm, as the Quakes tallied four runs on just two hits in the inning.
The lead didn't last long though, as Lake Elsinore got two on the Valenzuela single to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth, then put the game away with one in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Rancho had some opportunities, but just couldn't come up with the big hit. The Quakes scored one in the ninth, thanks to a third Lake Elsinore error, but ultimately left the tying run on deck.
The Rancho lead in the South Division standings is down to 2 ý over the Storm as the Quakes (17-14) three-game winning streak ends. On Thursday, the Quakes send righty Robbie Peto (0-1) to the hill against Storm right-hander Levi Thomas (0-2). Game time from Lake Elsinore will be 7:05pm on Thursday.
On Tuesday, June 15th, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for a six-game series against the Visalia Rawhide. Tickets are available for all Quakes home games at rcquakes.com.
