Syracuse Mets News Release

Rochester, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 3-1, Friday night at Frontier Field. Jose Berrios faced the minimum over the final 20 batters he faced, and the Red Wings hit two more home runs for the victory. Brian Goodwin extended his on-base streak to 15 games in the loss. The game was the Chiefs' shortest nine-inning affair of the season, lasting only one hour and 54 minutes.

Syracuse (46-53) scored first for the 16th time in the last 20 games, scratching a first inning run against Berrios. Steve Lombardozzi singled with one out and Goodwin followed with an RBI double to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Rochester (59-42) finally got on the board in the fifth. Byung Ho Park hit A.J. Cole's first pitch of the inning over the left-field fence on a line-drive home run. Park's second home run in as many nights tied the score at one.

Cole set down six Red Wings in a row before Daniel Palka led off the seventh with a single. Three batters later, Tommy Field gave Rochester the lead with a two-run home run for a 3-1 advantage.

The Chiefs could not solve Berrios all night. After Jason Martinson doubled in the second inning, Berrios did not allow another hit over the final 20 batters he faced, throwing eight innings with a walk and nine strikeouts.

The Chiefs and Red Wings head to Syracuse for the third game of the four-game home-and-home series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Paolo Espino is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Jason Wheeler for Rochester.
