Wings ROC to 4-1 Win in Series Opener

Jimmy Kerrigan blasted two solo home runs to power the Rochester Red Wings to a 4-1 win over the Indianapolis Indians Friday night, on Roc the ROC Night at Frontier Field. Alejandro De Aza hit his first home run as a Red Wing, and the bullpen threw 5.0 scoreless innings to secure the victory.

Back-to-back home runs got the Wings rolling early in the second inning against Indians' starter Cam Vieaux. Alejandro De Aza hit his first home run as a Red Wing and Jimmy Kerrigan hit his fifth since joining the club earlier in July, giving Rochester a 2-0 lead.

Indianapolis began to cut into the lead in the top of the third against Red Wings' starter Adam Bray with a home run off the bat of Hunter Owen making the score 2-1.

Rochester added back on to their lead in the bottom of the third. Jaylin Davis continued to be one of the hottest hitters in the International League and reached first with a single through the right side. Wilin Rosario followed him up by hitting a single through the legs of Vieaux and into center field, allowing Davis to advance to third. Zander Wiel skied a sacrifice fly to right in the next at bat, bringing in Davis from third and giving the Wings a 3-1 lead.

Kerrigan continued his hot hitting in the fourth inning and launched his second home run of the night into the bullpen in left to extend Rochester's lead to 4-1.

Bray finished his start throwing 4.0 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run, while striking out one batter. He threw 44 pitches, 31 for strikes. Sam Clay came on in relief at the beginning of the fifth inning.

Vieaux's outing also concluded after throwing 4.0 innings. He gave six hits, four earned runs, one walk, and struck out four. 61 of his 89 pitches were for strikes.

Clay threw 3.0 hitless innings with one strikeout before Ian Krol came on in relief in the eighth inning.

NOTES:

Alejandro De Aza 's solo home run in the second pushed his on-base streak to nine games...Drew Maggi pushed his on-base streak to 29 games with a double in the bottom of the first...Wilin Rosario extended his hit streak to five games with a single in the bottom of the third...The Minnesota Twins acquired LHP Jeremy Bleich from Boston Friday and assigned him to Rochester.

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY

1983 - Dan Logan and Dan Purpura combined to execute a 3-6-3 triple play in a 6-2 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens at Silver Stadium. The triple play was the Wings' first since John O'Rear's unassisted triple play in 1977 and the first at Silver Stadium since 1970.

2005 - Felix Diaz pitched eight strong innings, striking out nine and Charlotte beat the Red Wings 7-2 Tuesday night at Frontier Field.

2006 - Alex Romero had three hits and three RBI, and Pete Munro combined with Kevin Cameron on a seven-hit outing, leading the Red Wings over the Charlotte Knights 6-1 Wednesday night at Frontier Field.
