Toledo Mud Hens News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Toledo Mud Hens fell behind early en route to a 8-4 loss Friday to the Syracuse Mets at NBT Bank Stadium.

Just two days after shutting out Lehigh Valley, the Mud Hens have now lost three of their last four games against the Mets, losing the series-opener at home this past week.

Ryan Carpenter (5-6, 4.88 ERA) went six innings and allowed six runs on eight hits for his first loss when starting for Toledo since June 24.

Corey Oswalt (7-2, 3.38 ERA) threw a five-inning shutout affair in his 11th Triple-A start this season.

Friday marked the 12th game in the month of July in which the Mud Hens have finished with double-digit hits (11).

Syracuse took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out home run from Arismendy Alcantara and Gregor Blanco's sacrifce fly ball to left.

Rene Rivera, the 10-year major league veteran, registered his eighth double of the year to set up runners in scoring position. Rivera is third on the team in home runs (18) behind Travis Taijeron (23) and Dilson Herrera (21).

The Mud Hens would threaten in the first when Daz Cameron led off the game and doubled to center field. The No. 5-ranked Detroit Tigers prospect was then caught stealing at third.

Altherr pushed the Mets ahead by six runs with his third home run in six days in the third inning.

The offensive spark for Toledo picked up three innings later as Jake Rogers tripled and Jacob singled, allowing Victor Reyes to knock in the first run safely.

In the next at-bat, Dawel Lugo grounded into a force out at second but was able to score Robson, who entered the game leading the International League in steals (21).

Rogers' three-base hit was the result of right fielder Rymer Liriano mishandling a fly ball. It's the first triple for the No. 12-ranked Tigers prospect this season.

After the three-run bomb, Carpenter left without surrendering a run for Zac Reininger, making his second appearance since being optioned by Detroit on Sunday.

Dustin Peterson began the seventh inning by drawing a solo home run over the left field wall for his 11th of the season.

One-of-three Mud Hens batters to have double-digit homers through 104 games, Peterson gets his first since July 4, as well as his 48th RBI which trails only Victor Reyes (57).

Syracuse went to the bullpen for the third time leading 6-4 later that inning once reliever Ryan O'Rourke commited his third walk and second earned run with Reyes touching home.

Reininger threw two innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Altherr recorded his fourth RBI of the game on a double to right before Taijeron upped his team-leading home run total in the eighth.

Opposing clubs have garnered two runs on Reininger in three of his last six outings.

Edwin Jackson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is probable to start Saturday in the second of a three-game series against the Mets.
