GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Thursday signed center Joakim Andersson (YOH-ah-kihm AN-duhr-suhn) to an amateur tryout.

Andersson, 20, just finished his first full season playing at Sweden's top level for Frolunda, where he tallied 12 points (6-6-12) through 49 regular season games. Detroit's second choice (88th overall) in the 2007 NHL draft, Andersson recently helped Sweden to a runner-up finish at the World Junior Championship for a second straight year, tying for fourth on the club with six points (2-4-6) in six games and tying for seventh in the tournament with a team-high plus-seven rating.

The Munkedal, Sweden, native made his debut in the Swedish pro ranks by logging one game with Frolunda during the 2006-07 season. He also appeared in nine games with the club last season and shows totals of 13 points (7-6-13) and 24 penalty minutes through 59 pro contests in Sweden.

The Griffins will return to Van Andel Arena this Friday to host the Hamilton Bulldogs in their home finale at 7 p.m., in a fight for home-ice advantage in the teams' first-round playoff matchup.
