Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings fell just short Wednesday night against Norfolk, losing 9-8 to extend their losing streak to a franchise-record 19 straight games.
RHP Joan Adon toed the rubber for the Wings, allowing six runs on five hits through three innings of action.
Norfolk tallied three runs in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles, but the Wings would bounce back early, scoring five in the bottom of the first. RF David Dahl and 1B John Nogowski logged an RBI single each to tie the game at three before 3B Jecksson Flores and LF Andrew Stevenson each walked with the bases loaded.
The Tides tied the game at five each in the fourth with an RBI single from Brett Cumberland and an RBI groundout from Anthony Bemboom. They took a 6-5 lead soon after when Richie Martin scored Cumberland on a sac-fly to right field.
Rochester's deficit grew to three runs when Kyle Stowers registered a two-run RBI single in the seventh off RHP Connor Sadzeck, who was making his third appearance for the Wings.
The Wings pulled within one run in the seventh on a two-run homer from DH Jake Alu and tied the game at 8-8 in the eighth when Stevenson logged a homer, but it wouldn't be enough. Stevenson has homered in three straight games for the first time in his minor league career.
LHP Alberto Baldonado and LHP Francisco Perez both saw the mound, with Perez surrendering two runs before Sadzeck, LHP Matt Cronin and RHP Reed Garett took over for a combined 2.2 innings. Stowers hit a ninth-inning RBI single off Garrett to give the Tides a 9-8 lead. It would prove to be the game-winner.
Rochester will send RHP Patrick Murphy to the mound on Thursday for a 1:05 p.m. matchup against Norfolk.
