Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - After scoring three runs in both of the first two games of the series, Wichita's bats ignited for 16 hits and scored a season high 14 runs in their 14-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The 'Hawks pitching staff struggled to keep runners off the bases with walking eight batters in addition to the 14 hits. In two different innings the Wingnuts scored five runs with 10 or more plate appearances in the inning.

The first three innings zipped by with both sides only having 10 at-bats through three. In the fourth is when the road team started to roll. With two outs, seven consecutive batters got on base. There were four singles, Brent Dean hit an RBI double, one walked, and one hit by pitch. That all resulted in five runs for the Wingnuts. The bottom half of the inning had Keury De La Cruz continue his great series by knocking a double, but then he was caught stealing. That cost the 'Hawks a run when Luke Bailey blasted his third home run of the season for three runs.

In the sixth inning Wichita widened the gap at 6-3 with a run being walked home. Similarly to the fourth, the eighth inning had five more runs scored by the road team with two outs. There were two walks and three batters were hit by pitches. A second big inning made the scoreboard 11-3 in favor of the Wingnuts.

Outfielder Kes Carter came in to pitch in the ninth, and the batters took advantage. They were extremely patient at the plate with four players being walked. Harrison Kain capped his big game off with his fourth RBI on his fourth hit as part of the team's three runs. K.D Kang blasted a solo shot to centerfield in the bottom of the ninth, but it was obviously not enough to get the 'Hawks back in the game.

Jon Link (1-2) got his first win of the season and Tyler Alexander (1-1) took the loss. Despite the big loss this game, the RedHawks took the series by winning the first two.

The RedHawks continue their six-game homestand with a three-game series starting Monday night against the Sioux City Explorers. Monday's Memorial Day game will start at 6:00 p.m. The games on Tuesday and Wednesday night will be at 7:02 p.m. For tickets to all upcoming RedHawks home games, visit www.fmredhawks.com.
