Wichita Wingnuts News Release
After dropping the first two games of their road series in Fargo, the Wingnuts aim to salvage the final game of their set against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks this afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
___
Wichita Wingnuts (2-7) at Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (5-4)
RHP Jon Link (0-2, 11.73) vs. LHP Tyler Alexander (1-0, 2.76)

4-RUN 5TH DOES IN WICHITA
Two errors and four unearned runs in the fifth turned a 3-2 Wingnuts lead into a 6-3 deficit in an eventual 7-3 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Saturday at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. With the bases loaded and one out, Keury De La Cruz hit into a fielder's choice, and after an error, two runs scored on the play to allow the RedHawks to take the lead. Brian Humphries then added a two-run double, pushing the lead to 6-3. Fargo added one more in the eighth while the Wichita bats went quiet over the final four innings. After the teams traded runs in the opening innings, the Wingnuts took the lead in the fourth, when T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a solo home run, his second of the season, to give Wichita a 2-1 lead. The RedHawks tied it up with a run in their half of the frame, but Wichita went back in front once again in the fifth. The Wingnuts loaded the bases and with two outs, Richard Prigatano drew a walk to bring in his team-leading seventh run of the year. That run was the only one Wichita could muster in the inning as the visitors left the bases loaded, and left 11 on base for the game.
BIG INNINGS A BIG PROBLEM
Big innings have been a problem for Wichita so far in 2016 and that continued last night, as a four-run fifth inning by the RedHawks provided the margin of victory for the home team. Through nine games, the Wingnuts have allowed 10 innings in which their opposition has scored three or more runs, including a season-high eight-run inning for Joplin earlier on this road trip. Errors have played a part in these big frames, as six of the three-plus run innings given up by Wichita have seen at least one error made by the Wingnuts within that inning.
THE MISSING LINK?
To try and salvage the final game of their three-game set in Fargo, Wichita will turn to veteran right-hander Jon Link. Link has struggled so far in 2016, and was pulled after just one and two-thirds innings in his last start against Joplin on Tuesday. The Wake Forest, N.C., native gave up nine runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits on Tuesday against the Blasters, bumping his ERA up to 11.73 over his first two starts. Entering 2016, Link was 23-3 with a 2.62 ERA for the Wingnuts.
