Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats survived a late rally by the Joplin Blasters to get their third win in two days during opening weekend on the SouthShore. Karl Triana delivered a quality start to propel the Cats (5-6) past the skidding Blasters (4-6).
Triana entered his third start as a RailCat with two tough outing previously, but pitched well to leave the game with the lead. He went 6.0 innings giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out seven. Josue Montanez struggled in his second start of the weekend for the Blasters. The lefty only made it 1.2 innings giving up four earned runs and walking three.
The RailCats offense continued to thrive getting multi-hit games from four players. Elbert Devarie led the way going 2-4 with a RBI. Jose Sermo, Masato Fukae, and Jarred Mederos added a pair of hits apiece as well.
The beginning of the game was generous to the Cats, scoring runs in four of the first five innings. Joplin got the early lead but the Cats answered to tie it in the bottom of the first. They took the lead with a three-run outburst in the second and never relinquished it.
Kevin Osaki allowed a run but limited the damage in 1.2 innings of two hit work. Alex Gunn got the save by going 1.1 innings and allowing one Blaster run.
The RailCats continue the homestand tomorrow with the beginning of a four game series with the Kansas City T-Bones. The Cats are starting Travis McGee whose first pitch will be at 4:10 at the Steel Yard.
