Wingnuts roll over Pelicans 12-4 in matinee

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts pounded the Pensacola Pelicans for the second straight day, taking the series finale 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

Wichita scored early and often, piling up nine runs over the first three innings. The Wingnuts scored five times in the first inning on seven hits, with Patrick Brooks and Michael Sharp each knocking in two runs in the frame. Wichita added three in the second on a three-run home run by Kelly Hunt, his league-leading fifth of the season. Greg Porter, who leads the league in hitting, went 2-5, with a home run and four RBI.

The Wingnuts rapped out 20 hits, including at least two hits in every inning but the sixth. Seven different wingnuts had at least two hits and scored at least one run. Josh Horn led Wichita with four hits and four runs, while Nick Blasi and Michael Thompson each recorded three hits. Wingnuts starter Derek Blacksher was stellar, allowing just three hits and no runs in seven innings, to move his record to 7-2. The Pelicans scored four unearned runs in the eighth, thanks to a pair of Wichita errors.

Wichita now hits the road for 16 straight games, starting Friday at Sioux Falls. While the Wingnuts are gone, Lawrence Dumont Stadium will host the 75th Anniversary NBC World Series, which starts Saturday and runs through August 15.
