Sioux City Explorers News Release

Lincoln, NE......A late ninth inning rally came up short for the Explorers Wednesday as they lost 4-3 at Lincoln. The Explorers had the tying and go-ahead run on base in scoring position with two outs in the ninth inning when Derek Schmerhorn lined out to left field to end the game.

Sioux City had taken a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning when Lincoln scored to cut the lead to 2-1. However, in the seventh the Saltdogs scored three runs off relief pitcher Mike Phelps to take a 4-2 lead. The Explorers scored an un-earned run in the eighth inning to slice the lead to 4-3, but came up a run short. The loss was the seventh straight for the X's and drops them into fourth place in the American Association North, three and a half games behind first place Lincoln.

The final game of the season between the two teams will be Thursday at Haymarket Park.
