
Wingnuts Rally Past T-Bones in Ninth

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Kansas City T-Bones 7-6 in front of 6,019 fans at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.
Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, the Wingnuts rallied for two runs against T-Bones' closer Andy Shipman to pull out the win. Ryan Patterson led off with a bloop single to shallow center. Patterson stole second base and moved to third when Shipman's pickoff attempt went into center field. Shipman came back to strike out Brent Clevlen, but Juan Richardson hit a groundball triple that struck the left field foul line before rolling into foul territory. The T-Bones elected to walk Jorge Delgado and Josh Workman back-to-back to load the bases with one out. Edwin Bellorin won the game, drawing a five-pitch walk against Shipman to force in Richardson from third base.
Kansas City had mounted a comeback of their own in the top of the eighth against Wingnuts' reliever Kendy Batista. With the Wingnuts leading 5-4, Ray Sadler led off with a broken bat single to left field. Kala Ka'aihue followed with a line drive, two-run home run to left that moved Kansas City in front.
Jimmy Mojica hit a two-out, three-run home run to left field in the top of the second that gave the T-Bones an early 3-0 lead.
Josh Workman cut the lead to one run with a two-run double in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Patterson was hit by a pitch and Clevlen drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Richardson hit a groundball to third baseman Rico Washington who recorded a force at second, but Jeff Hulett's relay to first went into foul territory and allowed Patterson to score the tying run. Delgado doubled into the right field corner on a 3-0 count to give the Wingnuts a 4-3 lead. Bellorin added a fifth run with an RBI single to right-center.
Kansas City scored their fourth run in the top of the sixth when Keanon Simon hit into a double play with the bases loaded.
Marcos Tabata earned the win, working a scoreless top of the ninth inning. Jared Simon worked one and one-third perfect innings of relief.
Junior Guerra started for the Wingnuts and took a no-decision, allowing four earned runs in five-plus innings. Guerra allowed five hits, five walks, and struck out three.
T.J. Large started for Kansas City and also took a no-decision, allowing five earned runs on five hits in four and two-thirds innings. Large walked four and struck out one. Shipman took the loss in relief for the T-Bones.
Jose Duran's hitting streak ended at 13 games. Richardson's ninth-inning triple extended his hitting streak to nine.
