Wingnuts' Link Purchased by Detroit Tigers

Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS - Wichita Wingnuts right-handed pitcher Jon Link has been purchased by the Detroit Tigers' organization.
Link currently ranks first in the American Association in both wins (six) and ERA (1.74). The 29-year-old Link is also fifth in the league with 38 strikeouts. Link tossed the first complete game of his nine-year professional career on Monday night versus Gary SouthShore, scattering five hits and notching a season-best nine strikeouts. The Columbus, OH native has allowed two or fewer earned runs in six of his seven starts, and recently had a string of 24.0 consecutive scoreless innings.
"This is well-deserved," said Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper. "Jon did everything he possibly could to help us win. He kept us in every single ballgame that he pitched in. He deserves another chance in affiliated ball, and I'm glad things have worked out. We wish him nothing but the best."
Link was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 26th round in 2005 out of Bluefield College in Bluefield, VA. Link pitched successfully for both the Padres' and Chicago White Sox' farm systems before reaching the Major Leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010. Working mostly as a closer prior to this season, Link has reached double digits in saves in five of his first eight professional seasons.
Link becomes the 17th player the Wingnuts have sold to a Major League organization, and is expceted to join the Tigers' Double-A Eastern League affiliate in Erie, PA.
