Wingnuts Fall in Extras in Nightcap

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (20-12) lost 7-4 in 11 innings to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (16-14) in the nightcap of their day-night double header at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.

Chase Tucker singled leading off the top of the 11th and went to second when Adam Klein walked on a close 3-2 pitch. Mike Massaro then snapped a 4-4 tie with a triple down the right field line that scored Tucker and Klein. Massaro came home on a wild pitch from Wingnuts' reliever Kyle Wahl.

Wichita put runners on first and third with no outs in the bottom of the 11th before Clay Zavada worked out of the jam to earn the save--his second of the twinbill.

With two outs and no one on base in the top of the fifth, Klein singled to left-center and scored the first run of the game on a Massaro double. An infield single from Cristian Guerrero led to an error that brought in Massaro to make it 2-0 Gary SouthShore.

The Wingnuts rallied in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Brent Clevlen doubled leading off and scored two batters later on an Abel Nieves double down the right field line. David Amberson scored the tying run later in the frame on a Jared McDonald infield single that also included an error.

C.J. Ziegler doubled home John Rodriguez in the bottom of the sixth to give Wichita their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Klein tripled with two outs in the top of the seventh and scored the RailCats' third run on a wild pitch to tie the game.

In the home seventh, Amberson reached on an infield single, stole second base, and scored on Ryan Khoury's line drive single to left. The RailCats tied the game in the next half inning when Tucker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Anthony Capra started for the Wingnuts and took a no-decision. Capra threw four scoreless innings on one hit. Capra walked three and struck out six.

Billy Spottiswood also took a no-decision in the start for the RailCats. Spottiswood allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in four and two-thirds innings. Spottiswood walked one and struck out two.

Marco Gonzalez earned the win in relief for the RailCats. Wahl took the loss for Wichita.

Rodriguez, Nieves, and Amberson each had multi-hit games. Nieves has hit safely in 11 in a row. Josh Dew threw two scoreless innings of relief for the Wingnuts.
