
Wingnuts hang defeat on Explorers

Sioux City-----For the third straight night, the Wichita Wingnuts hang a defeat on the Explorers. Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park it was 5-2. This time it was a three-run home run in the sixth inning by Wichita first baseman C.J. Ziegler that was the difference. The home run broke up a 2-2 tie and came off losing hurler Richard Salazar. The Explorers had tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Mike Murphy, his second hit of the game that scored Wally Backman, Jr. Both Murphy and Backman extended their hitting streaks to four games while Explorer Brandon Newton went 0-4 as his hitting streak was stopped at 18 games. The victory for Wichita was their ninth straight as the Wingnuts at 27-8 have the best overall record of any team in the American Association. With the loss, the Explorers drop their fourth straight and now trail Wichita by 11-games in the Central Division. The final game of the four-game series will be Sunday starting at 6:05.
