RailCats Fall on Ninth-Inning Homer

GARY, Ind. - Lincoln cleanup hitter Stephen Holdren hit a two-out solo homer to left in the ninth inning to give the Saltdogs a 3-2 victory over the RailCats on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 5,215 at U. S. Steel Yard. The RailCats dropped to 15-19 on the season.

Mike Provencher hit a solo homer off the batter's eye in dead center field against RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Hiscock would settle in to retire the next nine hitters.

The RailCats tied the game in the third inning. David Cooper hit a one-out triple to right and Mike Coles drove him in with a two-out single to right. Coles leads the club with 25 RBI and the hit extended his team season-high on-base streak to 18 games. Cooper hit a two-out bunt single in the fourth to score Craig Maddox and put the 'Cats on top 2-1.

In the seventh, Lincoln put runners on the corners with nobody out and tied the game at two on a double play grounder by Salomon Manriquez. Hiscock went a season-long seven innings for his third straight quality start for the RailCats, allowing two runs on six hits.

The series finale and rubber match will be on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. It will be Bark in the Park Day at the Steel Yard, so bring your furry, four-legged friends to U. S. Steel Yard and enjoy an appearance by Skyy Dogs USA & Rockin' Ray.

Morgan Coombs (2-2, 5.40) will start for the RailCats against Saltdogs right-hander Wade Mackey (2-0, 3.27).
