Windy City Sweeps to Complete Perfect Homestand
July 12, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
J. T. Restko homered and drove in three runs while Dustin Pease held the Traverse City Beach Bums to just three hits as the Windy City ThunderBolts completed a 6-0 homestand with a 5-1 victory.
For the fifth time in six games in the homestand, Windy City scored in the first inning as with one out, Guillermo Martinez tripled. Two batters later, J. T. Restko took Kevin Reese deep for his 11th homer of the year and a 2-0 ThunderBolts lead.
Both starting pitchers kept the opposing offenses at bay through the fourth inning. In the fifth, Windy City got things going with a Tyler Farrar double. After a sacrifice moved Farrar to third, Gilberto Mejia lifted a single over the drawn in infield for a 3-0 ThunderBolts lead. After a Guillermo Martinez single moved Mejia to third and a stolen base but Martinez on second, a passed ball scored Mejia to put Windy City up 4-0. J. T. Restko closed out the scoring in the frame with a single, bringing home Martinez and putting the Bolts up by five.
Traverse City would score a sixth inning run on an RBI groundout by Mike Victor, but that was all the offense they would get for the game as Dustin Pease, Stephen Flake and Nick Hall combined to hold the Beach Bums to just the one run on six hits.
Pease (6-2) got the win going 5.2 innings allowing three hits while striking out a career-high tying seven batters. Flake tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and Hall struck out the side in the ninth.
