
Wild Things Lose in 10

Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (21-27), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost 6-5 to the Evansville Otters (16-32) in ten innings.
A two-run homerun by Phil Laurent in the first inning and a solo shot by Ernie Banks in the third gave the Wild Things a 3-0 lead. Washington scored two more in the fifth on Jacob Dempsey's bases-loaded single.
Starting pitcher Jason Neitz (5-3) gave up only one run in the first eight innings, when Eric Blackwell doubled and scored on Cameron Satterwhite's single in the fourth. Neitz retired nine straight batters starting in the sixth inning.
With one out, and two on in the top of the ninth, Justin Edwards entered with a 5-1 lead. Satterwhite hit a triple to knock in both base runners and then scored on a single by Josh Howard, bringing the Otters to within one. Howard stole second, allowing him to tie the game on Reece Gorman's single.
In the top of the tenth inning, Michael Lucas (1-2) walked in Evansville's go-ahead run and takes the loss. Otters' relief pitcher Justin Smith (2-2) struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to get the win for Evansville.
The Wild Things and Otters will play in Evansville on Friday, July 17 after the All-Star Break.
