Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - In a game that took barely more than two hours, one swing of the bat separated the two teams. A solo home run by Harold Garcia in the first inning was the difference as the Lakewood BlueClaws won 1-0 against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday night.

In his tune-up for the post-season, BlueClaws (34-32) starter Trevor May (4-1) was as advertised. He went five innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out seven. May worked himself out of a bases loaded and two outs jam with a strikeout in the third. Freddy Ballestas worked extremely well in three innings as he struck out three. Jacob Diekman picked up his second save of the season as he worked a quick ninth.

The BlueClaws got their lone run on the second swing of the ballgame on a solo home run by Harold Garcia in the first inning. Garcia, who has been much better as a lefty batter this season, sent the ball into the wind and over the left field wall as a righty against the lefty starter Cole McCurry.

McCurry (6-9) is a tough luck loser for the Shorebirds (30-35) as he pitched tremendous in eight innings of work he struck out nine and allowed four hits, but the home run to Garcia.

With the win, the BlueClaws have clinched their eighth consecutive winning half dating back to the 2006 season when they won their lone South Atlantic League title.

The shutout is the ninth of the season for the BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws and Shorebirds will end their five-game series as well as their regular season schedules on Monday at 6:05 pm. The BlueClaws playoff game three starter, if necessary, Jesus Sanchez (10-6) will work his post-season tune-up, and he will be opposed by lefty Nick Haughian (0-1).
