Five Run Inning Sinks Tourists

(Greenville, SC) Greenville worked five runs in the second inning and cruised to a 6-2 win over Asheville on Sunday night from Flour Field. The Drive picked up consecutive wins over the Tourists in what has become an SAL playoff preview. The Tourists are currently 7-9 vs. the Drive this year with the final game of the regular season on Monday at 2:00 pm.

Alan DeRatt (2-4) did not allow an extra-base hit in four innings of work. Asheville's starter allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with four strikeouts. All five earned runs came in the second inning. Stephen Dodson pitched three scoreless innings of relief of DeRatt. Dodson struck six and walked one while allowing just three hits.

Greenville started the scoring with a five run fifth inning. Will Middlebrooks and Shannon Wilkerson singled to begin the frame. With one out Ty Weeden walked to load the bases and Oscar Tejada followed with a two-run single. Greenville loaded the bases once again and Casey Kelley grounded in a run while Ryan Lavarnway looped a single to center field to score two more.

The Tourists picked up their first run in the sixth inning on a swinging Mike Zuanich bunt. Scott Robinson doubled to right and Jordan Pacheco singled him to third base. With two outs Zuanich dribbled a ball towards the mound and reached safely to score Robinson from third base.

Thomas Field scored the Tourists second run after doubling in the ninth inning. Field moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

The Tourists will play their final game of the regular season on Monday at 2:00 from Greenville, SC. Carlos Luna (0-0, 5.79) will get the start for Asheville and will go against RHP Caleb Clay (5-7, 4.11) for the Drive. Playoff Tickets are available with the post season beginning on September 9th from McCormick Field.
