
Crawdads cruise by Intimidators, 7-3

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads cruised to the 7-3 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators before 2,765 fans at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Crawdads (30-39, 63-75) took an early lead against RHP James Albury (5-2) and the Intimidators in the top of the first. C Vinny DiFazio extended the inning with a two-out double, and quickly scored on an RBI double by RF Eric Fry, making it 1-0.
Kannapolis (44-24, 81-57) came right back with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first against RHP Wilmer Font (8-3). One run came in on a sacrifice fly hit by DH Josh Phegley and the other scored on a passed ball, putting Kannapolis up, 2-1.
Hickory responded quickly with a run in the top of the second, squaring the score at 2-2. CF Aja Barto started the frame with a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball, and came in on a sacrifice fly by 1B Ed Koncel. Hickory then moved in front with two more runs in the top of the third. LF Mike Hollander opened the inning with a single, before scoring all the way from first on the RBI double by 2B Andres James. James moved to third on a fly out by DiFazio, and then came in on a sacrifice fly by Fry, putting Hickory ahead, 4-2.
The Crawdads kept swinging away against Albury in the top of the sixth, adding two more runs. On the inning's first pitch, Barto drilled the ball over the left field wall for a solo home run, his first as a Crawdad. DH Leonel De Los Santos then laid down a bunt single and moved to second when Koncel was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a ground out, and De Los Santos scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Hollander, making it 6-2.
RHP Leroy Hunt took over on the mound for Kannapolis in the top of the seventh, and Hickory welcomed him to the game with another run in the frame. Fry reached on a single, advanced to second on a Barto walk and scored on a two-out RBI base hit by De Los Santos, putting the Crawdads up, 7-2.
After RHP Mark Hamburger tossed scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh, Kannapolis struck for a run against RHP Andrew Doyle in the bottom of the eighth, cutting the Crawdads lead to 7-3. RHP Cody Eppley then took over for the bottom of the ninth, and closed out the Crawdads 7-3 win with a one-two-three inning. Font earned the win for Hickory, while Albury was tagged with the loss for Kannapolis.
