Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets managed six hits but went 1-9 with runners in scoring position in a 7-1 loss to the Rome Braves on Sunday evening from Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Matt Kramer's first inning home run put the Braves in the lead 1-0 but the GreenJackets rallied in the second. Charlie Culberson doubled with two outs and scored on Joel Collins' RBI single to tie the game at one.
Ari Ronick was solid for the Jackets through five innings but ran into trouble with two outs in the sixth. After Kramer's two-out double, Ronick issued back-to-back walks to load the bases for Calvin Culver, who unloaded them with a bases-clearing double that sent Ronick to the showers.
The GreenJackets never recovered, managing five baserunners through the last five innings and stranding four while becoming the victims of a double play to kill a rally in the eighth. Rome scored three more times in the ninth to extend the lead to six.
Ronick (7-6) fired 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits in his 2009 GreenJackets finale. He walked three and struck out four. His counterpart, Randall Delgado, worked a smooth six innings to get the victory. Delgado (5-10) allowed one run on five hits without a walk, while striking out five.
In the season finale on Monday afternoon the GreenJackets will send Andrew Reichard (4-4, 2.52) to the mound against fellow righty Julio Teheran (1-3, 3.93). First pitch on Labor Day comes at a special 2:05 p.m. start time and the game will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
