Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Hickory handed the Intimidators another loss on Sunday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, a 7-3.

Kannapolis mustered just six hits against starter Wilmer Font (8-3) and three relievers, though three of the hits came in order in an eighth inning rally. Brandon Short was the only Intimidator with a multi-hit outing, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored.

James Albury (5-2) took his second consecutive loss, giving up six runs, five earned, in six innings. Hickory took the lead for good with a two-run third inning, as Andres James drove in the go-ahead run with a double.

Kannapolis had taken an early lead, plating a pair of unearned runs against Font in the first. Josh Phegley pushed across a run with a sacrifice fly, before another run crossed on a Vinny DiFazio passed ball.

The Intimidators used three relievers, as Leroy Hunt, Drew O'Neill and Dan Remenowsky each went one inning out of the ‘pen. Hunt was the only that gave up a run, allowing one on two hits in the seventh.

Off the field, 2009 entered the record books with the most fans in Intimidators history. The 2,765 fans on Sunday pushed the season total to 130,287, better than the 129,252 that came to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in 2001.
