Wilson Wins 6-1 in Finale

WILSON N.C. (August 2, 2011)- The Wilson Tobs earned a 6-1 victory on Tuesday night in the season finale for Coastal Plain League play for 2011 over the Columbia Blowfish. The highlight of the game was Keith Morrisroe, who played all nine positions. Ryan Mathews became the Tobs single season RBI leader with his 41st RBI and Jon Levin broke the Tobs appearance record entering in his 28th game.

The Tobs got their first run in the bottom of the forth when Ryan Mathews reached on an error and then eventually scored on a separate error later in the inning. The score was 1-0.

Wilson held the lead until the Top of the sixth when the Columbia Blowfish scored an un-earned run themselves, and that tied the game.

With the score knotted at 1 in the bottom of the eighth inning the Tobs sent ten men to the plate and scored five times to bust the game open. Keith Morrisroe got a single to make it two to one, followed by a single by Mathews making it 3-1 and then Steve Nikorak got in on the action with a two run single himself, putting the game out of reach 5-1. In all the Tobs scored five runs on five hits in the inning.

Morrisroe started the ninth on the mound with the 6-1 lead and then gave way to Tony Wieber, who put down the Blowfish and slammed the door on the season for the Tobs.

Overall in 2011 for the Wilson Tobs, they finished with a record of 25-31. The Tobs saw five franchise records come crumbling down this year. Mathews was responsible for three of them. Mathews finished the year with 15 HR, 41 RBI and 118 Total Bases. All of those are new Tobs single season franchise records. Jon Levin appeared in 28 games more than any other Tobs player in a season. Keith Morrisroe the true definition of a utility player played all nine positions on Tuesday night but also had a franchise best 38 game on base streak throughout the summer. All five of those records made the season worth wile for the Tobs.

The winning pitcher was Jon Levin who improved his final record to (4-2). The losing pitcher was Jeff Murray who fell to (1-2). The Wilson Tobs saw 1861 fans in the stands for the game on Tuesday Night. The season attendance total was 34,227 fans for the summer of 2011.
