Blowfish Lose in Season Finale to Tobs

The Columbia Blowfish (10-18; 19-37) gave up five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and lost to the Wilson Tobs (10-18; 25-31) 6-1 in Columbia's final game of the season at Fleming Stadium on Tuesday night.

Blowfish starting pitcher Adam Westmoreland and Tobs' starting pitcher Brice Rivenbark each shut down their opponent through the first three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ryan Mathews scored on a throwing error by Nick Abrahamson to give Wilson a 1-0 lead.

The Blowfish finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning, as Chase Vergason scored on a wild pitch by Tobs' relief pitcher Tyler Saltsman, to tie the game 1-1.

Westmoreland continued to dominate the Tobs' lineup. He did not give up a hit until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Tony Wieber singled to right-center field with one out.

Westmoreland gave up one unearned run on one hit, walked one batter, and struck out nine.

The Tobs' offense exploded in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring five runs off Blowfish relief pitcher Jeff Murray (1-2). Keith Morrisroe, Ryan Mathews, Wieber, and Steve Nikorak each had a RBI single to give Wilson a 6-1 lead.

Morrisroe, who played at every position in the game for Wilson, and Wieber combined to shut down the Blowfish in the top of the ninth inning.

Tonight's game was the last game of the season for both the Blowfish and the Tobs.
